Three international productions in Athens
The Stages of Resistance program presents works that approach the stage as a space of testimony. Performances rooted in real-life experiences, where personal narratives become vessels of history, politics, and collective memory.
Their creators treat the theatrical act as a site where identity, violence, exile, and justice are not presented as abstract concepts, but as lived experiences of body and voice.
In a world saturated with images and narratives, these performances return to the essence of live presence: a person on stage who speaks — and an audience invited to listen.
Between the River and the Sea
A production by Maxim Gorki Theater, directed by Isabella Sedlak, starring internationally acclaimed actor Yousef Sweid (Unorthodox, Game of Thrones, Munich Games, Woman of the Dead).
The performance ran to consecutive sold-out audiences in Berlin, was voted by German audiences as one of the most significant productions of the year, and in 2026 joins the repertoire of the Royal Court Theatre in London.
Sweid takes the stage alone to recount his life between Palestine, Israel, and Europe — his family, identity, contradictions, and what it means to live “in between.” A deeply personal and often humorous work, addressed to audiences of all ages.
The performance will be presented in English.
