SONIC CHROMAS | Chora / You Don’t Have to Die to Become a Ghost

You Don’t Have to Die to Become a Ghost is a live sound performance-installation by MIZI and Andrey Guryanov that explores radio as an invisible yet omnipresent space of experience, memory and transmission.

Through an idiosyncratic micro-broadcast featuring elements of storytelling and a “phantom” radio host, the work creates a multichannel sonic environment in which radios, transmitters, receivers, walkie-talkies, antennas, microphones, electromagnetic interference and personal soundscapes coexist in real time.

The two artists approach radio waves not merely as carriers of sound, but as a parallel dimension of reality, beyond immediate human perception. Here, disembodied voices, signals of uncertain origin, natural and artificial phenomena, political broadcasts, fragments of pop music, encrypted transmissions, military signals, interference and electromagnetic traces weave together into an acousmatic field charged with poetic and sensory intensity.

Presented as part of the exhibition dedicated to Christos Papoulias, the work finds particularly fertile ground for exploration. Architectural thinking, drawing and spatial perception encounter an immaterial, sonic space in which the invisible becomes perceptible through transmission, vibration and listening.

Just as architectural drawings organise relationships, movements, boundaries and possible ways of inhabiting space, this work maps an unseen territory of signals and spectral presences. The exhibition is transformed into a living field of listening, where the visible and invisible, the material and immaterial, the body and its transmission coexist in a shared experience.
