SONIC CHROMAS | Among echoes

The concert Among Echoes explores the rare combination of voice, clavichord, and electronics in contemporary, experimental, and early Baroque works. Christia Michael and Alexis Mastichiades present a synthesis of early Baroque and new music by distinguished composers from Greece and abroad.

The clavichord, with its soft and whispering timbre, was a favored instrument from the Middle Ages to the 18th century, mainly for private study and chamber music. Its ability to produce subtle expressive nuances and subtle dynamic variations makes it an ideal partner for the human voice. Although less familiar to the general public, its distinctive aesthetic and inward sound world make it particularly relevant within contemporary composition.

Presented in dialogue with the exhibition of Opy Zouni, the performance creates a sensory exchange in which visual geometry and abstraction are translated into the meantone tuning of the clavichord and atmospheric soundscapes moving between space and time, the familiar and the abstract, the personal and the collective.

Works specially commissioned for this duo, together with new arrangements and Early Music repertoire, explore the unexpected possibilities of historical instruments in combination with the voice, aiming at an immersive listening experience. The program presents Greek premieres by Aspasia Nasopoulou, Yannis Kyriakides, Morton Feldman, Nirantar Yakthumba, Christia Michael, and Alexis Mastichiades, alongside works by Jacopo Peri, Johann Jacob Froberger, and Luzzasco Luzzaschi.
